2027 Audi Q4 e-tron Spotted With Minimal Camouflage, Teasing Major Mid-Cycle Refresh

by Shreeya

Audi’s 2027 Q4 e-tron battery-electric compact luxury crossover SUV has been spotted testing on public roads wearing minimal camouflage, signaling that an official reveal may be imminent.

The next-generation Q4 e-tron, along with its Sportback variant, is part of Audi’s growing electric lineup that leverages the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform and the newer PPE architecture. Currently, Audi offers a diverse range of all-electric models, including the Q4 e-tron, Q5 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, and the e-tron GT flagship, with more EVs like the revived A2 e-tron expected in the near future.

Larger vehicles are also on the horizon, including the next-generation Q7 and Audi’s first-ever Q9 flagship crossover. These new launches come as Audi faces ongoing challenges, with deliveries declining nearly 12% in 2024 to just under 1.7 million vehicles. Previous strategies have not fully translated into growth, and the company has scaled back some EV efforts, such as discontinuing the Q8 e-tron and closing its Brussels factory. The upcoming Q7 and Q9 are expected to feature gasoline and hybrid powertrains, highlighting a balanced approach between traditional and electric propulsion.

Despite these shifts, the Q4 e-tron remains a key entry point in Audi’s EV portfolio. First introduced in 2021 on the MEB platform and sharing components with the Volkswagen ID.4, ID.5, and Skoda Enyaq, the Q4 is now approaching a mid-cycle refresh. Spy photographers have tracked development for nearly a year, capturing prototypes undergoing rigorous testing, including Nürburgring laps and winter trials.

The latest sightings show the 2027 Q4 e-tron wearing just a few strips of duct tape over its grille, redesigned LED headlights, and full-width LED taillight bar—effectively revealing most of the vehicle’s updated design. Automotive insiders describe this stage as the equivalent of a “bikini at the beach” compared to earlier, heavily camouflaged prototypes.

Beyond exterior updates, the refreshed Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback are expected to debut a new dual-screen setup in the cabin, aimed at enhancing driver interaction and overall comfort. Market availability for the 2027 models is anticipated by the end of the year.
