Volkswagen is gearing up for the mid-cycle refresh of its T7 Multivan, with the updated model set to debut in the second half of 2026. The current generation, introduced in 2021, receives a host of exterior updates and subtle mechanical enhancements in the 2027 version, as revealed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VCV).
The facelifted Multivan features new headlights with a distinctive lighting signature, emphasizing a wider stance through a more pronounced separation between the front bumper and radiator grille. The headlights employ IQ.LIGHT matrix technology, incorporating dynamic light assistance, cornering lights, and weather-specific modes for enhanced visibility.
Built on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform—shared with the Golf and other transverse-engine models—the 2027 T7 Multivan introduces six new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs, while the 19-inch Halmstad wheels receive a subtle refresh. Matte-finish paints are now available, alongside three new bi-tone exterior options, including Candy White with Gray Brown, and Blue with White.
Volkswagen has not yet disclosed details about interior updates or mechanical improvements. However, the automaker is expected to address previous criticisms related to infotainment usability and interior materials. A key focus is on powertrain compliance, with all TSI and TDI engines upgraded to meet stringent Euro 7 emissions standards. Compared with Euro 6, the new regulations measure emissions from the moment the engine starts, require compliance under extreme real-world conditions, and limit particle sizes to as small as 10 nanometers. Vehicles must also maintain compliance for 10 years or 200,000 kilometers, double the previous requirement.
Currently, the German market offers the outgoing T7 with 1.5- and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines paired with dual-clutch transmissions. The range-topping 1.5 eHYBRID combines a plug-in hybrid system with a total output of 242 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, providing an electric driving range of up to 95 kilometers (59 miles) on a full charge. Future battery improvements could extend this range beyond 100 kilometers.
The refreshed 2027 Volkswagen T7 Multivan promises a modernized look, enhanced lighting technology, and cleaner, more efficient engines, keeping it competitive in the evolving van segment.
