Content creator Shay Martin has shared personal details about her recent breast augmentation, explaining that her late husband, Tanner Martin, played a meaningful role in her decision to undergo the procedure.
Martin addressed followers’ questions through a series of Instagram Stories, where she discussed the surgery, her postpartum body changes, and how conversations with her husband before his death influenced her choice.
Shay and Tanner built a significant online following while documenting Tanner’s five-year battle with colon cancer. He was diagnosed in November 2020 at age 25. In a pre-recorded video released last summer, Shay announced that Tanner had died at age 30. The couple welcomed their daughter, AmyLou, just 41 days before his passing.
Responding to a follower who asked about the outcome of her recent surgery, Martin explained that she chose to have implants placed under the muscle to restore her breasts to their pre-breastfeeding size.
“I didn’t know that when you breastfeed, after you’re done, they can become saggy and feel empty,” she said in the video, candidly describing the physical changes she experienced after nursing.
Martin also reflected on her broader body image journey since giving birth. She emphasized that seeking cosmetic procedures was not rooted in dissatisfaction, noting that people do not have to feel unhappy with their bodies to want to make changes.
“One thing you should know about Tanner and me is that we both liked to look really good,” she said. “We cared about style, about our hair, about how we presented ourselves.”
She added that she has felt confident at different weights throughout her life but has also chosen to make adjustments at various stages. After losing a significant amount of weight following childbirth, she previously underwent a tummy tuck to remove excess abdominal skin.
When asked why she did not combine the breast augmentation with the earlier procedure, Martin explained that she was still breastfeeding at the time of the tummy tuck and only noticed the full extent of breast volume loss after she stopped nursing.
In another response, accompanied by a photo of the couple, Martin said Tanner had long been aware that she hoped to have what she described as a “mommy makeover” and had been supportive of the idea.
“He knew someday I wanted this,” she wrote, adding that her husband had always encouraged her decisions about her body.
Martin’s posts, which included references to past text conversations between the couple, offered followers a glimpse into how their relationship continues to shape her choices as she navigates life and motherhood after his death.
The influencer has continued to share updates about parenting AmyLou and adjusting to life after loss, while maintaining the online community she and Tanner built together.
