The Renault Kwid facelift has been spotted undergoing road tests, hinting at significant design improvements ahead of its upcoming release in India. The test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, especially around the front and rear, showcasing Renault’s intention to refresh the hatchback’s appearance in line with its updated design strategy.
The new Kwid’s front end is expected to incorporate features inspired by the latest Kiger SUV. These updates include slimmer LED daytime running lights, redesigned headlamps, and a more prominent front grille and bumper. The changes are aimed at giving the Kwid a more confident look and aligning it with Renault’s broader vehicle range. At the back, the facelifted model will display the newest Renault logo, along with modified taillamps that provide a more modern and refined appearance.
Interior updates are also on the cards. It is likely that the Kwid facelift will see changes in the materials used for upholstery and will introduce new color options for buyers. Feature-wise, the vehicle is expected to come with a larger touchscreen infotainment system and an improved digital instrument cluster with updated interface. Key current features, such as rear parking sensors, front power windows, and optional cruise control, are anticipated to remain in the new version.
Under the hood, no changes are expected to the Kwid’s powertrain. The facelift is predicted to continue with its existing 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which delivers 68 bhp and 92.5 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT) option. For those looking for alternative fuel, a CNG variant using the same engine will also be available. These configurations make the Kwid a suitable choice for city commutes.
Renault’s decision to update the Kwid comes as the segment for budget hatchbacks in India remains largely unchanged, with few new competitors joining the market. The Kwid’s continuous updates are intended to help the model hold its ground against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The facelift is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms by 2027, renewing interest in the entry-level hatchback category.
