Hallmark actress Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe shared an update on her breast cancer journey with fans on Instagram on Jan. 22. The star, known for roles in The Wish Swap and Signed, Sealed, and Delivered, revealed she is preparing for her final appointment with her plastic surgeon ahead of surgery.
Lowe is approaching her last chemotherapy session, with less than four weeks remaining before her scheduled procedure. During her Instagram update, she candidly discussed the difficult decisions she faced regarding her treatment.
“I was feeling super weird about everything, and starting to get panicked,” Lowe admitted. “Like, am I making the right decision? Should I get a double mastectomy? Is this right for me?”
The actress explained that she had qualified for two surgical options: a mastectomy or a lumpectomy. While both procedures offered the same survival rate, the lumpectomy carried a higher risk of cancer recurrence. “Meaning, it can come back more, without doing the mastectomy,” Lowe said.
This information helped her make a definitive choice. “I don’t want to play,” she said. “I don’t want to play that game.” She also noted that there were concerns about her other breast, and although doctors had not deemed it problematic, she felt it was best to remove it.
Reflecting on her decision, Lowe shared, “So yeah, I feel really good about this decision.”
