Brock Women’s Sports Teams Unite to Fight Breast Cancer with Annual Shoot for the Cure Events

by Shreeya

The Brock Badgers women’s basketball team is taking aim at breast cancer this January through the 19th annual Shoot for the Cure campaign, supporting the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

The highlight event, the Shoot for the Cure basketball game, will tip off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Bob Davis Gymnasium, where the Badgers will face the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs. Players will wear pink warmups in solidarity, as part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Brock’s women’s hockey and volleyball teams are also joining the cause. The hockey team hosts its Pink in the Rink game on Friday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. against the Western Mustangs at Canada Games Park. Meanwhile, the volleyball team will hold its Dig for the Cure match at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, against the RMC Paladins. Both games are part of U SPORTS’ official Shoot for the Cure campaign running from Wednesday, Jan. 21, to Sunday, Feb. 1.

Fans can support Brock’s teams and the national fundraising effort, which aims to raise $100,000 this year, through the Brock Badgers fundraising page on the Canadian Cancer Society website. Donors can select a specific team’s roster page and click “Donate Now” to contribute directly.

In addition, U SPORTS has launched the Shoot for the Cure Collection, a line of merchandise with all proceeds going directly to the campaign. Last year, donations exceeded $122,000, pushing the campaign’s total raised since 2007 to over $2 million.

The Shoot for the Cure initiative continues to inspire athletic communities nationwide to make a tangible impact in the fight against breast cancer.
