Eva Amurri Reflects on Breast Reduction Surgery as One of the Most Transformative Moments

by Shreeya

As 2025 came to a close, celebrities flooded social media with reflections on the moments that defined their year. Among them was Eva Amurri, who revealed that a deeply personal medical decision ranked as one of her biggest milestones.

In a year-end Instagram post recapping the “peaks” of her year, the actress and lifestyle blogger shared that she underwent breast reduction surgery in January—an operation she had contemplated for more than 20 years. “I made the huge decision to officially go through with my breast reduction surgery,” she wrote, marking the start of what she described as a transformative chapter.

Amurri offered further insight through a photo slideshow documenting key moments of 2025. In a March update, she posted a mirror selfie wearing a bra and underwear, explaining that her results were finally settling as the most challenging stages of recovery came to an end. “I was suddenly feeling like I was in the right body for me since I hit puberty,” she wrote. “It was like starting a whole new chapter of life.”

The Happily Eva After founder later expanded on her decision in an April blog post, detailing the physical and emotional toll of living with very large breasts. While acknowledging that they can appear “glamorous” from the outside, Amurri said the reality was far more complicated. She explained that the discomfort extended beyond back pain and clothing challenges, affecting her confidence and mental health. “You can’t take them off and take a break,” she noted.

Although she considers herself body-positive and has long embraced her curves, Amurri admitted her breast size had been a persistent struggle. Fear, particularly of anesthesia and surgical vulnerability, delayed her decision for years—concerns that intensified after becoming a mother. “I didn’t feel comfortable putting myself at risk for something that I wanted but didn’t medically need,” she wrote.

Ultimately, a shift in perspective led her to move forward. Approaching her 40s, Amurri said she began reassessing her fears and prioritizing how she wanted to live in her own body. “I realized that I can absolutely do scary things,” she explained, adding that personal comfort and autonomy outweighed her lingering doubts.

In an October blog update, Amurri shared details of the procedure, which was performed by New York City plastic surgeon Umbareen Mahmood, MD. The surgery removed roughly half of her breast tissue using only her natural tissue—no implants or drains—reducing her size from a 32F/G to a 32C, before eventually settling at a D cup. She described her recovery as manageable, relying primarily on over-the-counter pain relief and adjusting to disrupted sleep in the early weeks.

By naming the surgery as one of her defining moments of 2025, Amurri made clear that the impact extended far beyond physical change—reshaping her sense of self and well-being long after the year ended.
