Pop star Jessie J has shared a deeply personal reflection on the emotional toll of her breast cancer journey, describing 2025 as both “one of the hardest but most magical years” of her life.
On Dec. 30, the 37-year-old singer posted a tearful selfie on Instagram alongside a candid message about her “heavy and hard” year. “In a world full of ‘everything is fine, I’m happy, I’m good, life is perfect,’ there is grief, hurt, pain, sadness, heartbreak and reflection and processing happening this time of year for many of us, alongside the good and great or on its own,” she wrote.
Jessie J, taking her first break from work this holiday season, revealed she has been “feeling really low” and using journaling as a way to process her emotions. “The lowest I have felt in a while,” she admitted. “An accumulation of stuff just making its way to the surface and I’m letting it out.”
She emphasized the importance of embracing vulnerability, adding, “We are not superhuman or meant to be happy and positive all the time. It’s healthy and normal to cry, and if someone you love is crying don’t say ‘oh don’t cry’—say ‘come here.’” She concluded her message with a note of solidarity: “Sending love to anyone feeling this way too right now… it’s s–t sometimes.”
Since publicly announcing her breast cancer diagnosis in June, Jessie J has been transparent about her treatment and recovery, regularly updating fans on her journey. Recently, she made headlines for breaking royal protocol by hugging Kate Middleton, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Explaining the moment on This Morning on Dec. 3, Jessie said, “I just saw a mom that has also gone through cancer publicly, and I just wanted to give her a hug… It was as simple as that. I didn’t see her as the Princess of Wales, and I was respectful.”
Through her openness, Jessie J continues to offer comfort and authenticity to fans navigating their own challenges, reminding them that it’s okay to not always be okay.
