Polbathic Pub Raises Thousands to Support Men’s Health in Devon and Cornwall

The Halfway House in Polbathic has surpassed its fundraising goal for The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health, raising £2,231—well above the original target of £1,600.

Throughout November, the pub hosted a series of events and challenges to raise awareness of prostate, penile, and testicular cancers in Devon and Cornwall. A dedicated “Prostate Corner” provided visitors with information and advice, encouraging local men to take an active role in their health.

Landlord Lloyd Halliday, who promised to shave his head if the target was met, described the community support as overwhelming. “I’m absolutely blown away by everyone’s generosity,” he said. “It started as a throwaway comment over a drink, and now we’ve raised over £2,200 to support men across Devon and Cornwall. Every pound, every shared post, every pint sold has made a real difference.”

Fundraising efforts included pub events, community challenges, and initiatives designed to spark conversation about men’s health in a welcoming environment. Local patrons rallied behind the cause, ensuring the target was exceeded.

Following the campaign’s success, Mr. Halliday shaved his head in celebration. The funds raised will go directly to The Chestnut Appeal, which provides vital support, information, and treatment resources for men facing cancer.

Organisers say the campaign highlights the impact of community-led fundraising and hope it inspires other local businesses to take similar initiatives. The Halfway House continues to accept donations through its online fundraising page, allowing supporters to contribute to men’s health efforts.
