Eli Lilly announced Monday that it has cut the price of its single-dose vials of Zepbound, its popular obesity drug, aiming to make the treatment more affordable amid rising demand for weight-loss therapies.
Patients with a prescription can now purchase the starting 2.5 mg dose for $299 per month, down from $349, through LillyDirect, the company’s online healthcare platform. The 5 mg dose price drops to $399 from $499, while higher doses are now available at $449 per month under Lilly’s Zepbound Self Pay Journey Program, reduced from $499.
The price reduction follows similar cuts for Zepbound multi-dose pens, which are still awaiting U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.
“Far too many people who need obesity treatments still face cost and coverage barriers,” said Lilly executive Ilya Yuffa.
The move comes as demand for weight-loss medications has surged, boosting Lilly’s market value to historic levels. Last month, the Indianapolis-based company became the first drugmaker to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization, joining a group previously dominated by tech giants.
Lilly’s stock has risen more than 39% this year, driven by strong sales of its tirzepatide medication—marketed as Zepbound for obesity and Mounjaro for diabetes—which has become the world’s best-selling drug, surpassing Merck’s cancer therapy Keytruda.
Zepbound is approved to help adults with obesity or overweight conditions lose excess weight. It is also approved for improving conditions in adults with obesity and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea.
In November, Lilly reached a deal with the Trump administration to reduce prices of its GLP-1 drugs for Medicare, Medicaid, and cash-paying patients.
