Russian fitness coach and influencer Dmitry Nuyanzin died last week while attempting a binge-eating challenge designed to promote his new weight-loss program.
According to multiple reports, Nuyanzin, 30, planned to rapidly gain more than 50 pounds to demonstrate how quickly he could lose the weight afterward. To reach his target, the Orenburg native reportedly consumed around 10,000 calories a day for several weeks.
Friends said Nuyanzin began feeling ill and cancelled training sessions, telling them he intended to seek medical attention. He later died in his sleep from cardiac arrest.
By mid-November, Nuyanzin had gained roughly 30 pounds and told followers he weighed about 230 pounds. He also launched a challenge offering $100 to participants who shed 10% of their body weight by the new year.
Inside the Binge-Eating Regimen
Nuyanzin did not publish a full daily plan, but he shared examples of meals he consumed during the experiment. His typical day included calorie-dense dishes such as pastries and cake for breakfast, nearly a kilogram of dumplings with mayonnaise for lunch, snack foods throughout the day, and fast-food items like burgers and pizzas for dinner.
Fitness Community Mourns
Nuyanzin graduated from the Orenburg Olympic Reserve School and the National Fitness University in St. Petersburg. He worked for years as a personal trainer and was remembered online as a positive and supportive coach. Many former clients and followers posted tributes on social media following news of his death.
Guidance on Safe Fat Loss
Experts emphasize that effective and sustainable fat loss relies on maintaining a caloric deficit—consuming fewer calories than the body expends. While exercise supports health and conditioning, it cannot counteract consistently high-calorie, low-nutrition eating habits.
Strength training is also recommended because building muscle can increase resting metabolic rate, allowing the body to burn more calories throughout the day.
Health professionals warn against extreme dieting strategies, rapid weight-gain experiments, or self-designed protocols that significantly strain the body.
