Women are increasingly seeking testosterone therapy to address multiple age-related health concerns. Midi Health, a virtual clinic focused on midlife health for women, is expanding access to testosterone treatment to meet rising interest across its network of more than 200,000 patients in the United States.
There is a long history of men using testosterone therapy to address aging-related issues. In recent years, women have begun to pursue similar approaches. They report improvements in libido, muscle health, energy, and mood. Midi Health says the demand among its patients has surged, prompting the company to introduce a women-specific therapy option.
Midi Health CEO and co-founder Joanna Strober emphasized that the goal is to help women optimize their health by providing practical options. “Hormones are a key component of that,” she said. The company’s move comes as awareness grows about the role of testosterone in female health, even though therapies explicitly approved for women are not yet on the U.S. market.
Currently, the U.S. has no FDA-approved testosterone treatments for women, leading many to use off-label or male-focused products. In other regions, such as the United Kingdom, testosterone therapy for women has been prescribed for decades.
Strober noted that there is research supporting testosterone therapy for women, but she acknowledged lingering fears. “There’s just been a lot of fear around it; unnecessary fear, as though you’re going to turn into a weightlifter, get huge muscles and your hair is going to fall out,” she said.
Midi Health is addressing these concerns by developing a formulation tailored to women and offering it through its clinicians. The therapy will be available in 12 states at first, with a nationwide rollout planned as state regulations permit. Insurance coverage is also included, setting Midi Health apart from many other offerings.
The company’s plan reflects broader industry momentum in women’s health. Midi Health’s midlife care program has grown quickly since its inception in 2021, with a focus on menopause, perimenopause, longevity, and aging well. The new therapy aligns with that mission by expanding options for symptom relief and overall well-being.
The initiative comes as other health-forward brands, including Hims & Hers Health, Stripes Beauty, and Respin Health, pursue women’s health services and menopause-related care. An FDA expert panel on menopause and hormone replacement therapy highlighted ongoing interest and scrutiny in this field.
Demand for Midi Health’s testosterone therapy has risen substantially. About a year ago, the company issued under 100 testosterone prescriptions per week as part of a pilot program. Today, prescriptions have climbed nearly tenfold, driven in part by social-media discussions about the therapy’s potential benefits.
Strober underscored the need for personalized care: “It’s not a one-shot fit all, so there’s a big opportunity to build personalized health care solutions and deliver them in a way that matches how people want to receive care.”
The growth strategy has contributed to strong financial momentum. Midi Health reported a revenue run rate above $150 million and has doubled its weekly patient engagement to more than 20,000 visits in the current year. Investors include Emerson Collective, Google Ventures, and a roster of notable supporters such as Amy Schumer, Brandi Chastain, and Tory Burch. The company’s broader aim is to close the gap in women-focused care and to provide health services that meet the needs of midlife women.
Strober argued that there is broad room for growth in women-centered care. “This is not a small niche,” she said. Midi Health’s approach emphasizes coverage by insurance and access through licensed clinicians, positioning the company as a comprehensive option in a field that has seen rapid development but uneven access.
