by Shreeya

According to a report by NHK on July 25th, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recently released the statistics on the average life expectancy of Japanese people in the previous year. The data shows that Japanese women, with an average life expectancy of 87.13 years, have topped the world rankings for the 40th consecutive year, demonstrating Japan’s remarkable achievements in the field of public health.

Specifically, the average life expectancy of Japanese people last year was 87.13 years for women and 81.09 years for men. Compared with the previous year’s results, the average life expectancy of women decreased slightly by 0.01 years, while that of men remained unchanged.

Among the countries that statistically calculate and publicly disclose the average life expectancy of their citizens, the average life expectancy of Japanese women has maintained its leading position in the world for 40 consecutive years, which is a remarkable feat. Meanwhile, the average life expectancy of Japanese men ranks sixth in the world, following countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, and Norway.

The statistical results also showed an interesting trend. Although the national average life expectancy last year was basically on a par with that of the previous year, the number of deaths due to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction decreased, while the number of deaths due to natural aging increased. This may indicate that the improvement of medical technology and the change of lifestyle have played a positive role in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare analyzed that in the long run, due to the overall improvement of the living environment, medical standards, and national health awareness in Japan, the average life expectancy of the Japanese population is expected to continue to increase. Japan has a relatively complete medical system, with high – quality medical resources and advanced medical technology, which can provide effective guarantee for the health of the people.

At the same time, the healthy diet of the Japanese, such as a high – proportion of seafood and vegetables, also contributes to their longevity. In addition, the continuous improvement of national health awareness makes people pay more attention to regular physical examinations and a healthy lifestyle.
