Recently, Prof. Xiao Xiaohe’s team from the Institute of Hepatology Medicine, the Fifth Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital, has achieved remarkable progress in TCM efficacy evaluation.
Their research paper, which introduced the “Integrated Evidence Chain Method” for TCM efficacy evaluation, was published in Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B, an authoritative international pharmaceutical journal. This method offers an innovative approach to address the long – standing “bottleneck” in TCM development.
Specifically, the “Integrated Evidence Chain Method” combines clinical experience (initial evidence), experimental research (supporting evidence), and clinical trials (confirmation evidence). It embodies the two – way translational medicine characteristics and R & D path of TCM, which is “from clinic to laboratory and back to clinic”.
Through demonstration studies, it has been proven that this method is highly recognized and in line with industry requirements. It can more objectively and comprehensively reflect the clinical value of TCM, breaking through the limitations of traditional single – evaluation standards.
After the publication of the paper, it has attracted extensive attention in the industry. The method has been completely incorporated into the “Science of TCM Regulation” by the National Medical Products Administration of China and has been approved for the establishment of a group standard by the China Association of Chinese Medicine, namely the “Guidelines for the Integrated Evaluation of Evidence on the Efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine”. This innovative method is expected to play a vital role in promoting the modernization and internationalization of TCM, providing new strategies and effective means for the development of the TCM cause and industry.
Moreover, it is learned that the “Integrated Evidence Chain Method” was jointly completed by Prof. Xiao Xiaohe’s team, Academician Chen Xiangmei’s team from the First Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital, Prof. Wang Jiabo’s team from the School of Chinese Medicine at Capital Medical University, and Prof. Dai Aiguo’s team from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. This method has also been included in the top ten academic progresses of traditional Chinese medicine in 2024, which will inject new vitality into the inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine.
