SAMSUNG SDI has entered into a multi-year agreement with Mercedes-Benz to supply batteries for the automaker’s next-generation electric vehicles, marking a significant milestone in the Korean company’s global growth strategy.
The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at the Andaz Seoul Gangnam Hotel. Key figures in attendance included SAMSUNG SDI CEO Joo Sun Choi and Executive Vice President Han Jae Cho, alongside Mercedes-Benz Group Chairman Ola Källenius, Chief Technology Officer Jörg Burzer, and Mercedes-Benz Korea CEO Mathias Vaitl.
Under the terms of the deal, SAMSUNG SDI will provide high-performance battery systems built on high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) chemistry. These batteries are engineered to offer higher energy density, extended driving range, enhanced durability, and improved power output. The company will also integrate its proprietary safety technologies into the battery systems.
Mercedes-Benz intends to deploy these batteries across its upcoming lineup of compact and mid-size electric SUVs and coupe models, reinforcing its efforts to strengthen competitiveness in the rapidly expanding global electric vehicle market.
In addition to the supply agreement, both companies signaled plans to deepen collaboration in areas such as advanced battery innovation and future mobility solutions.
A SAMSUNG SDI representative described the partnership as a strategically important step that reinforces the company’s standing in the global EV battery sector.
