Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 6 N has been awarded the 2026 World Performance Car title at the World Car Awards, announced during the New York International Auto Show, reinforcing the brand’s growing influence in the high-performance electric vehicle segment.
The latest win marks Hyundai’s second triumph in this category in just three years, following the IONIQ 5 N, and continues a strong run for Hyundai Motor Group after the Kia EV6 GT also previously secured the honor. Together, these achievements highlight the group’s sustained momentum in redefining performance through electrification.
The IONIQ 6 N reflects Hyundai’s strategy to push electric performance beyond straight-line speed, focusing instead on delivering an engaging driving experience typically associated with traditional sports cars. The company said the model was developed to balance track capability with everyday usability, aiming to preserve driving enjoyment as a core priority.
Manfred Harrer, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Division, emphasized that the project built upon lessons learned from the IONIQ 5 N, with an emphasis on improving driving dynamics while maintaining comfort for daily use.
A key element of the IONIQ 6 N is its suite of performance-focused technologies designed to replicate the feel of conventional internal combustion performance vehicles. These include Hyundai’s N e-Shift system, which simulates dual-clutch transmission behavior, and N Active Sound+, which provides synchronized audio feedback aligned with acceleration and power delivery.
Hyundai has also refined the vehicle’s chassis and suspension tuning to improve steering precision and road feedback. Track-oriented features such as the N Drift Optimizer and N Track Manager allow drivers to customize performance settings for motorsport-style driving experiences.
Since its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the IONIQ 6 N has received a series of industry accolades. It was named Best Electric Performance Car at the What Car? Awards, Performance Car of the Year by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, and Best Driver’s Car at the TopGear.com EV Awards. It also earned an iF Design Award in the automotive product category.
Media reviews have echoed this positive reception, with Car and Driver noting that the vehicle delivers sensations similar to a traditional sports car, while Top Gear remarked that its driving experience can make it easy to forget it is fully electric.
Beyond individual accolades, the IONIQ 6 N is part of Hyundai’s broader effort to expand its N performance division into electric motorsport and enthusiast-focused programs. This includes the introduction of the eN1 one-make racing series for production-based electric vehicles and record-setting efforts at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in electric SUV categories.
The company has also drawn on experience from its long-standing involvement in the FIA World Rally Championship to accelerate development of EV performance technologies, including experimental projects such as the RN24 rolling lab.
Joon Park, Vice President of Hyundai’s N Management Group, said the recognition reflects the company’s direction in shaping the future of performance driving through electrification.
With the latest World Performance Car award, Hyundai further strengthens its position as a leading force in the rapidly evolving electric performance vehicle market.
