Mercedes-Benz Trucks has officially opened orders for its new battery-electric eArocs 400, marking a significant expansion of its electric vehicle lineup into the construction sector. The truck was first introduced at the bauma trade fair in Munich last year and is now available for customers in 13 European Union countries. Production of the base vehicle is set to begin in the third quarter of 2026 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth am Rhein. Following this, the electric drivetrain will be integrated by the Paul Group, based in Vilshofen an der Donau.
The eArocs 400 is designed specifically for urban and near-road construction work, with a focus on durability and efficiency. It features two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, each providing 207 kWh of capacity. These battery packs are housed in a tower located behind the cab, allowing the truck to complete a full workday in many cases without needing to recharge.
This new electric truck is offered in two versions, with permissible gross vehicle weights of 37 and 44 tonnes. It comes with an 8×4/4 axle configuration and offers four different wheelbase options. The eArocs 400 is suitable for various construction-related applications, including dump bodies and concrete mixer bodies.
Key technologies from Mercedes-Benz’s second-generation eActros portfolio have been incorporated into the eArocs 400. Notably, it features an advanced 800-volt onboard electrical system and a three-speed integrated transmission. The truck delivers a continuous power output of 380 kW and can reach peak power of up to 450 kW. Charging capabilities are robust, supporting up to 400 kW via a CCS2 charging interface available on both sides of the vehicle.
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, emphasized the truck’s strengths by stating that the eArocs 400 combines the robustness needed for construction tasks with an efficient electric drive system. She highlighted that it covers key use cases in near-road construction work effectively.
With growing demand for sustainable and low-emission vehicles in construction and urban logistics, Mercedes-Benz’s entry into this market segment with a powerful electric truck underlines its commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. The launch of the eArocs 400 expands Mercedes-Benz’s electric portfolio beyond long-haul trucks into more specialized commercial vehicles.
Customers interested in adopting cleaner technology for their construction fleets can now place orders for the eArocs 400 in selected European markets. As production ramps up later this year, the truck is expected to play an important role in reducing emissions while maintaining high performance standards required by demanding construction operations.
