Amazon Pay Expands Vehicle Insurance Access to 280 Million Users Across India With Digital-First Offering

by Shreeya

Amazon Pay has broadened its vehicle insurance services to reach an estimated 280 million vehicle owners across India, strengthening its push into the country’s underpenetrated insurance market. The expansion, delivered in partnership with HDFC ERGO, ACKO, and ICICI Lombard, covers around 250 million two-wheeler owners and 30 million car owners, offering competitive premiums and streamlined, cashless claims processing.

The move targets a significant gap in India’s insurance landscape, where more than 70% of registered two-wheelers remain uninsured. Amazon Pay aims to improve accessibility beyond major metropolitan areas, extending services into tier 2 and tier 3 cities such as Coimbatore, Kota, Gwalior, Jamshedpur, Jhansi, Udupi, Sambalpur, Alwar, and Bharatpur.

The platform enables users to purchase vehicle insurance entirely through the Amazon app within minutes. Customers can generate quotes by entering their vehicle registration number, compare coverage options from multiple insurers, and complete the purchase digitally. For two-wheelers, the process does not require physical inspections, and policies are issued almost instantly.

Amazon Pay’s insurance offering includes access to a network of more than 9,000 cashless garages nationwide, subject to policy terms. Users can tailor coverage with optional add-ons and pay using Amazon Pay balance, UPI, or saved cards. Cashback incentives are also available, while Amazon Prime members benefit from exclusive premium discounts provided by partner insurers. Once purchased, policies are immediately accessible via the Amazon orders page and delivered to the customer’s email.

“Amazon Pay strives to innovate for every Indian by simplifying financial needs and expanding access to essential services,” said Vikas Bansal, CEO of Amazon Pay India. He noted that the expansion reflects the company’s focus on increasing insurance penetration, particularly in smaller cities where access has traditionally been limited.

By integrating insurance into its broader ecosystem—which includes UPI payments, savings products, and travel services—Amazon Pay continues to position itself as a comprehensive financial platform for Indian consumers.

Amazon Pay operates as a registered corporate agent and does not underwrite insurance policies. Customers can access the service through the Amazon Pay section or by searching for vehicle insurance on the Amazon app or website.
