Subaru has unveiled a new Heritage Service program in Japan designed to support owners of early-generation Impreza WRX and STI models. The initiative targets vehicles built on the GC platform during the mid-1990s, providing enthusiasts and collectors with access to original replacement parts that are increasingly difficult to find.
The program includes a wide range of components, from engine gaskets and headlights to rubber body parts and other essential items prone to wear over time. By producing these parts, Subaru aims to help preserve the performance and originality of its iconic sports models.
To determine which parts were most needed, Subaru engineers studied high-mileage vehicles, disassembling cars that had traveled more than 200,000 kilometers. This careful analysis allowed the company to identify the components most likely to fail and include them in the Heritage Service offering.
The Heritage Service was officially introduced at the Nostalgic 2 Days exhibition in Yokohama. At the event, Subaru showcased a rare 1996 Impreza Type RA STI Ver.II V-Limited, one of just 555 units produced to commemorate the brand’s 1995 World Rally Championship victory, highlighting the historical significance of the vehicles supported by the program.
Currently, parts are available exclusively through Subaru dealerships in Japan. However, similar programs from other automakers, such as Mazda and Honda, initially launched in Japan before expanding internationally, suggesting that Subaru’s Heritage Service could follow a similar path in the future.
With collector interest in early Impreza WRX and STI models continuing to rise, enthusiasts around the world may eventually gain access to these original spare parts. This program represents a significant step in ensuring that classic Subaru sports cars remain roadworthy and retain their collectible value for years to come.
