BMW Group’s Rosslyn plant in South Africa has reached a major production milestone with the completion of its 100,000th fourth-generation BMW X3. The achievement highlights the facility’s importance within BMW’s global manufacturing network and reflects the efforts of employees and partners involved in vehicle production.
Located north of Pretoria, the Rosslyn plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s international operations. The 100,000th vehicle to roll off the assembly line is a Fire Red BMW X3 plug-in hybrid that will be exported to Australia. Notably, Rosslyn is the only BMW production site worldwide responsible for manufacturing the X3 plug-in hybrid for global markets.
The milestone represents the collective work of teams across the production chain, including plant associates, engineers, technicians, suppliers, logistics partners and dealerships. Together, these groups ensure vehicles meet BMW’s global standards for quality, performance and reliability.
Since its establishment, the Rosslyn facility has produced more than 1.8 million vehicles, including the previous third-generation BMW X3. The plant remains a significant contributor to South Africa’s automotive industry and export economy.

Beyond vehicle production, the facility also plays a role in developing local talent. Apprentices, trainees and graduate engineers receive hands-on training within the plant, helping to cultivate the next generation of technical and engineering professionals in the country.
At the production line, each BMW X3 passes through multiple assembly stages where teams focus on precision, efficiency and continuous improvement. For many employees, reaching the 100,000-vehicle mark represents years of dedication and collaboration on the factory floor.
While the milestone marks an important achievement for the Rosslyn plant, production continues as teams remain focused on maintaining the quality, craftsmanship and engineering standards associated with the BMW brand.
