Amazon Pay Expands Vehicle Insurance Services Across India With HDFC ERGO, ACKO and ICICI Lombard Partnerships

by Shreeya

Amazon Pay has announced an expansion of its vehicle insurance offerings, extending coverage for both cars and two-wheelers through partnerships with HDFC ERGO, ACKO and ICICI Lombard. The move enables customers across India to purchase vehicle insurance directly through Amazon Pay, providing a simplified and fully digital process for selecting and securing coverage.

With more than 250 million two-wheeler owners and about 30 million car owners across the country, the expanded service aims to make insurance more accessible and competitively priced. Customers can now buy vehicle insurance within minutes using the Amazon app, eliminating several common hurdles associated with traditional policy purchases.

The platform removes key friction points often encountered during the insurance process. In many cases, two-wheeler policies no longer require physical vehicle inspections, while policy issuance is handled digitally without the need for sales calls. Policyholders can also access cashless claims services through a network of more than 9,000 garages across India, subject to policy terms. This network covers major metropolitan areas as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, including Coimbatore, Kota, Gwalior, Jamshedpur, Jhansi, Udupi, Sambalpur, Alwar and Bharatpur.

Vikas Bansal, CEO of Amazon Pay India, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader effort to simplify financial services for Indian consumers. He noted that more than 70 percent of registered two-wheelers in India remain uninsured, highlighting the need to expand insurance access beyond major urban centers.

According to Bansal, the expanded partnerships with leading insurers are intended to help drive greater insurance penetration, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where availability and awareness of coverage options have historically been limited. By building a comprehensive network of cashless garages and offering digital policy issuance, Amazon Pay aims to provide what he described as a “critical safety net” for millions of road users while contributing to greater financial security.

The company said the entire insurance journey has been designed to be seamless and fully digital. Customers simply enter their vehicle registration number, select their preferred coverage plan and complete the purchase in a few steps. Policies are processed within minutes and become instantly available in the customer’s Amazon orders page for easy access and reference.

Payments can be completed through Amazon Pay, and users may also receive additional cashback benefits. Prime members are eligible for exclusive discounts on insurance premiums offered by participating insurers.

Key features of the Amazon Pay vehicle insurance service include competitive premiums, the ability to compare policies from multiple insurers, a digital onboarding process with minimal sales interaction, and special discounts available for Amazon Prime members.
