Veteran-Focused Mental Health Facility Opens in Manhattan Offering Comprehensive Care and Telehealth Services

by Shreeya

A new mental health facility aimed at supporting veterans and military families has opened in Manhattan, Kansas. The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone is located at 1960 Kimball Ave., Suite 375, directly across from the Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The clinic is part of the Cohen Veterans Network, a national nonprofit network of mental health clinics. Partnering with Centerstone, which specializes in mental health and substance use treatment, the clinic provides confidential therapy for conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, and challenges related to transitioning from military life.

Services at the clinic are available to post-9/11 veterans, active service members from all branches—including the National Guard and Reserves—and military family members. Eligible family members include spouses, children, parents, caregivers, siblings, and families of choice, giving veterans flexibility to define who counts as family.

Katie Hund, clinic director and Kansas State University alumna, emphasized that the clinic aims to remove barriers to mental health care. “The goal is to remove as many barriers to mental health care as possible,” she said. The clinic’s approach is evidence-based, relying on treatments proven effective through scientific research.

The facility also offers telehealth services, extending care to rural areas across Kansas. In addition, practical support is available for clients attending in-person sessions, including child watch programs and arranged transportation such as Uber rides, ensuring access for those with childcare or transportation challenges.

Hund highlighted that all staff members are trained to work specifically with military families. “All of the staff and care is focused heavily on what is best for client needs and their specific life experiences as military family or veterans,” she said. Treatments are customized for each client and typically last 10 to 12 weeks, ensuring personalized and high-quality care.

The opening of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone represents a significant expansion of mental health services for veterans and their families in Kansas, combining professional care with flexible options to reach underserved communities.
