Nearly 90,000 hair growth serum bottles sold online have been recalled due to child safety concerns, according to recent announcements by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recalled products contain minoxidil, a medication for hair growth that federal law requires to be packaged in child-resistant containers. If ingested by young children, minoxidil can be extremely dangerous and even life-threatening.
The latest recall involves about 8,600 bottles of Viofairy hair growth serum and 7,000 bottles of Sefudun hair growth serum kits. Both of these products were available for purchase on Amazon.com. The Viofairy serum, manufactured by Guangzhou Runshu BioTech Co. and sold by FDAF in China, was sold from January 2024 to September 2025. The Sefudun kit, distributed by Nengmiaokeji of China, was available from December 2023 to August 2025. These products were sold for around $15 each and did not have packaging that meets the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970.
With these most recent cases, almost 71,000 other bottles with minoxidil have already been recalled earlier this year. Brands such as Ruahouine, RootStim, and Moralowen’s Iristar brand also pulled their products off shelves this January after officials found that they too lacked the needed child-resistant packaging.
Health authorities have warned that children who accidentally swallow minoxidil may face severe health outcomes. Parents and guardians are urged to keep these products out of the reach of children. Consumers who purchased any of these items are encouraged to safely dispose of them and can request a refund by providing proof of disposal as directed by the distributors.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission continues to monitor these recalls and advises consumers to be cautious with all hair growth products containing minoxidil. Officials remind the public to always check that products with hazardous ingredients have proper child-resistant packaging before use at home.
