Veradermics Completes Enrollment in Phase 3 Trials for VDPHL01, Aiming for FDA Approval in Hair Loss Treatment

by Shreeya

Veradermics, Incorporated has announced a key milestone in the ongoing development of its new oral hair loss medication, VDPHL01. The company recently completed participant enrollment for its second Phase 3 clinical trial targeting male pattern baldness, bringing the total number of volunteers in male-focused studies to about 1,000. This progress highlights rising optimism that the medication may soon become the first new FDA-approved prescription treatment for pattern hair loss in over thirty years.

VDPHL01 is an extended-release oral version of minoxidil. It is designed for both men and women affected by pattern hair loss—a condition that impacts approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States. Veradermics aims to offer a non-hormonal alternative to existing hair loss treatments, marking a major step forward in the field of dermatology.

The recently finished ‘304’ Phase 3 trial involved 536 male participants who exhibited mild to moderate hair loss. The study tested two dosing schedules, 8.5 mg once per day and twice per day, over the course of one year. Researchers will measure changes in non-vellus hair count and patient-reported hair coverage after 24 weeks to determine the drug’s effectiveness. Initial results from the ‘302’ Phase 2/3 trial are expected in the first half of the year, with the ‘304’ study results anticipated later in the year.

Veradermics’ technology aims to deliver steady levels of minoxidil, potentially encouraging hair growth while reducing the risk of heart-related side effects. The company reports it has secured patent protection for VDPHL01 through 2043, further supporting its long-term strategy for the product. Meanwhile, recruitment is ongoing for female participants in a separate Phase 2/3 trial, reinforcing the company’s commitment to addressing hair loss across genders.

The completion of enrollment in these pivotal trials has contributed to investor confidence. Veradermics’ recent progress has brought its stock price close to its 52-week high, reflecting wide anticipation of possible regulatory approval. If successful, VDPHL01 could become a significant advancement in hair loss treatment, offering new hope for millions of people.
