US Skin Care Market Sees Shift as Sephora Embraces K-beauty Brands and Faces New Competition

by chenlulu

Sephora has increased its selection of Korean beauty brands as American shoppers show a preference for affordable and effective skin care products. A recent report from Navigo Marketing highlighted that many online buyers now value price, quality, and performance more than brand prestige, prompting Sephora to adjust its offerings to better meet these expectations. The company’s own Sephora Collection has grown rapidly, becoming a bridge between drugstore and luxury items, while Korean skin care and makeup brands are being added as cost-efficient alternatives.

Recently, Sephora introduced Korean brands Unove and Aestura to its stores. Both labels offer products at lower price points, with Unove particularly known for affordability. The expansion into Korean skin care and hair care is helping Sephora maintain its leadership in the US beauty retail market. In addition to these new arrivals, established Korean brands like Laneige, Cosrx, Dr. Jart+, Innisfree, Belif, Beauty of Joseon, Aestura, and Unove have become popular choices for customers seeking quality at a more accessible price.

The Navigo Marketing report shows clinical skin and body care brands are capturing a significant share of online sales. Sephora Collection holds the highest share of sales in makeup and ranks second in skin and body care among brands sold online. Laneige, another Korean brand, now ranks fourth by market share in skin care and its Lip Sleeping Mask is among the bestselling products. The retailer’s move to stock more Korean beauty reflects a broader industry trend and answers rising demand for innovative, dermatologist-backed skin care solutions.

Korean hair care is also gaining traction. Unove, a leading brand in South Korea, was recently introduced to Sephora as part of a partnership with Olive Young, a major Korean health and beauty retailer. This collaboration aims to bring even more K-beauty products to Sephora shoppers in the US, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, and Southeast Asia. Industry analysts predict strong first-year sales for these new additions, supported by growing interest in affordable, high-performance hair care.

Meanwhile, the arrival of competitors like the Canadian retailer Sukoshi, which specializes in Asian beauty products, is challenging Sephora’s dominance. Sukoshi is rapidly expanding across the United States and offers over 200 Asian brands at lower prices. Experts say that Asian beauty trends are not just passing fads—they are changing how North American consumers approach skin care and cosmetics. As demand for dermatologist-approved skin care grows, and as Sephora expands its K-beauty lineup, the retailer is adapting its sales strategy to stay ahead in the evolving market.
