“Ozempic face” has become a viral term as the weight loss drug gains popularity in Hollywood, sparking discussions about celebrities experiencing dramatic facial changes after losing weight. Among those scrutinized is singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson, whose transformation has drawn attention on social media.
On X (formerly Twitter), one user commented on Clarkson’s appearance while discussing Ariana Grande, writing, “Kelly Clarkson lost a ton of weight using it [weight loss drugs]. Her face is starting to look too thin too.” Back in September 2024, another post observed, “Kelly Clarkson just posted a TikTok and she has the Ozempic face.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, while “Ozempic face” is not a clinical term, it describes a real phenomenon associated with rapid weight loss. Endocrinologist Vinni Makin, M.D., explained, “The term ‘Ozempic face’ refers to the changes in the face that can happen with rapid weight loss. It’s characterized by gauntness, sunken cheeks, new wrinkles, and loose skin on the face and neck.” These effects occur as subcutaneous fat diminishes, leading to sagging skin. Experts note that similar changes can naturally happen with aging.
Despite speculation, Clarkson does not display the hallmark signs of Ozempic face. When she appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in January 2026, her face appeared youthful and plump. Observers suggest that the perceived changes in her facial structure may simply reflect normal aging rather than a side effect of weight loss medication.
Clarkson has been candid about her weight loss journey. In May 2024, during an interview with Whoopi Goldberg, she revealed that she had used medication to aid her weight loss. She clarified that the drug was not Ozempic but rather a treatment designed to help regulate sugar metabolism. “It’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right,” Clarkson explained, adding that her doctor recommended trying the medication.
Before confirming her use of weight loss medication, Clarkson credited her transformation to lifestyle changes. In a January 2024 interview with People, she highlighted moving to New York and adopting a balanced diet. “Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she said. “I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
Clarkson’s approach illustrates that weight loss can occur safely without dramatic or unnatural changes to facial appearance, even under public scrutiny. Her experience also sheds light on the misconceptions surrounding popular weight loss drugs and the viral phenomenon of “Ozempic face.”
