A Costa Rican mother and educator tragically passed away following complications from several cosmetic procedures, according to local and international reports.
Regina Brumley Kerr, 43, underwent multiple plastic surgeries—including a tummy tuck, fat transfer, and arm liposuction—at a private clinic. She was rushed to Hospital México in San José on Thursday, Jan. 24, after experiencing complications, and died the following day, British newspaper The Mirror reported.
The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department (Organismo de Investigación Judicial) is actively investigating the case, though no additional details regarding the procedures have been released, according to La Nación. Hospital México and the Organismo de Investigación Judicial did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Brumley Kerr was a teacher at the Siquirres Bilingual Experimental School and the Padre Roberto Evans Saunders Technical College. A spokesperson for her schools told The Mirror, “We stand in solidarity with her family and wish her peace that surpasses all understanding.”
Friends also expressed their sorrow. Giovani Montiel, who had seen Brumley Kerr about a month before her passing, said in Spanish, “That woman’s dream was for her daughters to be professionals and be close to their mother.” Brumley Kerr leaves behind two daughters, aged 20 and 7. Montiel was unaware she was undergoing surgery at the time.
The case has drawn attention to the risks associated with multiple cosmetic procedures and remains under investigation.
