When most people imagine red carpet beauty, they think of full-coverage foundation, sculpted contour, and layers of highlighter. Amy Poehler, however, proved that a pared-back approach can be just as striking.
At the 2026 Golden Globes last weekend, the 54-year-old actress and comedian stepped onto the stage with a fresh, understated makeup look that turned heads for all the right reasons. Rather than wearing traditional foundation, Poehler opted to go completely foundation-free. Her makeup artist, Kayleen McAdams, instead highlighted her natural complexion with a lightweight tinted sunscreen from beauty brand MERIT.
McAdams used MERIT’s Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen, a buildable formula with SPF 45 that provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Despite its lightweight texture, the product delivered enough coverage to leave Poehler looking polished and camera-ready as she accepted the award for Best Podcast.
Designed to offer a natural, non-cakey finish, the tinted sunscreen is particularly well-suited for mature skin. It is dermatologist-tested, oil-free, and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores. Its adaptable coverage allows wearers to customize the finish from sheer to medium, making it a versatile alternative to heavier base makeup.
The tinted sunscreen wasn’t the only MERIT product featured in Poehler’s red carpet routine. McAdams relied on several items from the brand to complete the look, keeping the overall effect soft and luminous.
“The look centered on warm pinks, fresh, luminous skin, and soft definition — nothing fussy,” McAdams told People.
The result was a cohesive, flattering appearance that remained intact under the intense stage lighting of the Golden Globes. Beyond the aesthetic appeal, the routine also stood out for its accessibility: most MERIT products retail for around $30, making Poehler’s award-night glow far more attainable than the luxury-heavy beauty regimens favored by many celebrities.
By choosing a minimalist approach and spotlighting skincare-forward makeup, Poehler offered a refreshing reminder that less can truly be more—even on Hollywood’s biggest nights.
