A 21-year-old woman, Maria Jose Torres Osorio, has died following severe complications from cosmetic surgery performed overseas. The young woman, originally from Ciénaga, Colombia, underwent a breast augmentation and tummy tuck at a private clinic, but hours after the procedures, she experienced severe pain and dizziness.
Eight days later, Maria was admitted to a hospital in Neiva, Colombia, where her condition deteriorated, leading to cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure. Doctors later confirmed she was brain dead, likely due to oxygen deprivation affecting several vital organs. She was placed on life support, but showed no signs of recovery. Nine days after the surgeries, her family made the difficult decision to remove life support, and her death was officially confirmed.
Maria’s father has criticized the clinic for failing to provide adequate information before and after the operation. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case adds to growing concerns about the risks associated with seeking cosmetic procedures abroad.
