Jessa Duggar Opens Up About Postpartum Weight Loss Journey and New Diet Changes After Baby Edward

Jessa Duggar is celebrating a significant milestone in her postpartum journey.

Five months after welcoming her sixth child, son Edward Owen, with husband Ben Seewald, the Counting On star revealed progress in her weight loss efforts.

In a January 6 YouTube video, Jessa shared, “I’ve managed to lose about 15 pounds in the last couple of months. I’m only about maybe five pounds out now from my pre-pregnancy weight, which always feels really good. It’s so exciting to be close to those goals.”

The 33-year-old mother—also mom to Spurgeon, 9, Henry, 8, Ivy, 6, Fern, 4, and George, 2—has been prioritizing wellness not only for herself but also in consideration of Edward’s health. Since beginning to breastfeed Edward, she has followed a dairy-free diet after noticing eczema developing on his scalp.

Recently, she introduced another dietary adjustment.

“Since Eddie’s eczema was not really getting better after cutting out dairy, the doctor was wondering if eggs could be an issue,” Jessa explained. “So, I’ve cut out eggs as well. Not the most fun thing in the world to have to restrict my diet away from treats, but it’s also very good for me. It’s probably the healthiest diet I’ve been on.”

Jessa also shared details of her fitness routine. She initially hired a personal trainer before becoming pregnant with Edward and continued guided exercises throughout her pregnancy, including standing hip rotations and sumo squats, three to five days a week.

“I’m not the super athletic type or a workout girl,” she admitted. “But something I finally realized was the only way you become that is by doing more of that.”

Her announcement comes months after she openly discussed the challenges of postpartum weight loss. In September, she expressed frustration on YouTube when none of her pre-pregnancy clothes fit. “It never goes down as fast as I want it to,” she said. “I try not to let it stress me out too much. If you ask Ben, he’d probably say I do stress about it too much.”

Despite not being a “bounce back, six weeks later” mom, Jessa emphasized embracing her personal timeline. “Everybody’s timeline is different,” she said. “Being older is different, too.”
