Love Island Australia star Gabby McCarthy has candidly shared her past struggles with body image, revealing that she considered a breast reduction during her teenage years and addressing body-shaming comments from online trolls.
During an Instagram Q&A session, Gabby responded to a fan who asked about social media remarks suggesting she should undergo a “breast reduction.”
“This triggers me SOOOOOO much. Any body comments trigger me so much,” she wrote. “I tried to get a boob reduction from the ages 14-16 [because] I was so uncomfortable in my skin, constantly treated differently, sl*t shamed and always laughed at school for developing younger than everyone.”
Gabby also revealed that her struggles with body image contributed to an eating disorder in her teens. She credited therapy with helping her achieve self-acceptance and confidence.
“I was so sick growing up (mentally and physically). Please, please, please think before you ask/comment on my body. I’ve gone through a lot of therapy and worked on myself for years to finally get to a point where I absolutely LOVE my body and am confident in my own skin. So no, I won’t be changing my natural body.”
Lessons Learned from Love Island Australia
Gabby also reflected on her experience in the Love Island villa, describing it as a significant personal growth opportunity.
“I think spending so much time with yourself and your thoughts and your emotions, my feelings, was like, wow. I have a lot to work on. Like, I have a lot of underlying things from my past or my childhood,” she said in a post-villa interview with Chattr. “I think I’ve really become a lot more self-aware since the experience, and obviously, like, I came out with so many best friends. I’m just so grateful and appreciative for all of it.”
Gabby’s honesty and candid approach have earned her a loyal fanbase. When asked if she would consider returning to the Love Island villa for a future season, she didn’t hesitate.
“I would definitely go back and do it all again.”
Fans will certainly be hoping to see her return for an All-Stars season in the future.
