A Newcastle swimmer has touched hearts by choosing to walk down the aisle without a wig at her wedding, embracing her alopecia in a deeply personal moment.
Dani G, 27, was just two years old when her mother, Julie, 57, noticed patches of her hair falling out. Diagnosed with alopecia universalis, Dani lost all her hair during her teenage years. While she typically wore wigs, she first met her now-husband, Jack Willis, in 2018 at the gym, confidently going without one.
The couple married in May 2025 in Crete, surrounded by 20 close friends and family members. Dani surprised guests by walking down the aisle wigless, accompanied by her father, Lance, 58. Later in the day, she switched to a blonde wig for dinner and speeches and a brunette one for the evening celebration.
Reflecting on the day, Dani described it as one of the most beautiful moments of her life. “Going wigless down the aisle was something he had mentioned even before we got engaged,” she said. “When I asked him what he thought, he said, ‘I’d love to marry you and see you how I fell in love with you on the day.’”
Dani emphasized that the choice was entirely hers and that her husband never pressured her. “On the day, I felt super confident. It’s one of the most beautiful times I’ve ever felt,” she added.
The content creator, who began posting makeup tutorials without wigs in 2017, explained that her focus was always on self-expression rather than alopecia awareness. “My parents brought me up to be confident and beautiful whether I wore a wig or not. I would often go out without my wig or makeup because I was training for swimming twice a day,” she said.
Dani’s openness inspired many. “A lot of women experience hair loss, and it’s not often discussed or shown. Sharing my story helped people see that you can be confident without hair,” she explained.
She shared her wedding day online, receiving an outpouring of support. “Reading comments from people going through hair loss saying it gave them hope or encouragement—that’s the best thing ever. It proves you don’t need hair to look beautiful,” Dani said.
Jack added, “From the moment I met Danielle, I knew she was my person. I wanted her to go down the aisle without a wig because that’s how we first met.”
