Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) has officially opened a new youth mental health facility, The Sett, at Berrywood Hospital in Duston, Northampton.
The purpose-built center offers a range of specialized amenities, including an activity room, informal communal spaces, classrooms, therapy rooms, a kitchen, and outdoor areas, all designed to promote comfort and well-being for young people.
Dr. Tiff Webster, NHFT’s Director of Children and Young People’s Services, emphasized that The Sett was specifically designed with young people’s needs in mind, integrating spaces for therapy, learning, and relaxation.
Previously located at a different site in Upton, The Sett’s move to Berrywood Hospital brings it closer to NHFT’s other child and adolescent mental health inpatient unit, The Burrows. Together, the two units offer a total of 20 beds for young people requiring inpatient care in a safe and supportive environment.
Dr. Webster remarked, “The team at The Sett has always provided exceptional care, but relocating to Berrywood gives them better access to the hospital’s resources, enhancing their ability to deliver outstanding care and support.”
Marie James, NHFT’s Service Manager for Inpatient CAMHS, added, “We consulted with young people throughout the building’s design process. They wanted a space that didn’t feel like a hospital, and I believe the architects have succeeded in creating something that feels bright, open, and welcoming.”
The Sett has already earned recognition for its design, winning three prizes at the national Building Better Healthcare Awards prior to its opening last month.
