The View Hospital, in affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, has launched Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) therapy in its Psychiatry Department, expanding access to an evidence-based treatment for patients who have not responded to standard depression therapies.

rTMS is a non-invasive, drug-free procedure that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate brain regions involved in mood regulation and pain processing. The therapy does not require anesthesia or hospitalization, and patients remain fully awake throughout the session.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved rTMS for treatment-resistant depression. Although widely recognized for its role in managing depressive symptoms, research also supports its use in conditions such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, and certain chronic pain syndromes.

“rTMS remains a highly effective option to help improve mood, create a sense of calm, and restore quality of life,” said Dr. Maged Fahmy, Senior Consultant of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at The View Hospital. “For people who have struggled for years without relief from medication or psychotherapy, this therapy may offer a meaningful new path forward.”

Since its introduction, The View Hospital reports positive patient outcomes and growing interest in the program. A typical treatment course involves daily 20-minute sessions, five days per week, over approximately six weeks.

“Our mission is to provide advanced, patient-centered care, and adding rTMS supports that vision,” said Dr. Fatih Gul, Chief Executive Officer of The View Hospital. “We are proud to be among the few private hospitals in Qatar offering this therapy and aligning our services with international standards in psychiatric care.”

Depression affects more than 280 million people globally, with about 5% of adults experiencing clinically significant depressive symptoms. Data from Harvard Health indicate that roughly 60% of patients who did not respond to antidepressant medications showed meaningful improvement with rTMS, and about one-third achieved full remission.
