President Joe Biden has completed a round of radiation therapy for an aggressive prostate cancer diagnosed after he left office, a spokesperson said.
The 82-year-old president had been receiving treatment at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia, according to aide Kelly Scully.
Biden left office in January, months after suspending his reelection bid following concerns about his age and health. In the 2024 election, Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris, who was Biden’s vice president.
The cancer was first disclosed in May, when the post-presidential office announced the diagnosis and noted the disease had spread to the bones. The announcement followed urinary symptoms reported by Biden.
Prostate cancers are graded by the Gleason score, which ranges from 6 to 10. Higher scores indicate more aggressive disease; Biden’s score was reported as 9, placing his cancer among the more aggressive classifications.
Earlier, Biden underwent skin cancer surgery to remove lesions from his forehead.
No further medical details were provided about the current treatment plan or prognosis. Updates on Biden’s condition are typically shared by his communications team and attending physicians.
