Errol Musk, father of billionaire Elon Musk, revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year following a routine health screening. The 79-year-old underwent surgery to remove his prostate after doctors detected the cancer early.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, with about one in eight men expected to develop it during their lifetime. Early detection is critical because prostate cancer often grows slowly and can be treated effectively if caught in its initial stages.
Speaking to Mail Online, Musk Sr. emphasized the need for regular screenings, especially for men over 50 or those with a family history of the disease. “I feel lucky my tumour was caught early, while it was still treatable,” he said. “Many men miss the chance for early treatment and face worse outcomes.”
He urged men to get tested through simple blood tests like the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test and follow up with their doctors for timely care.
Errol Musk reportedly informed his son Elon about his diagnosis via email, and Elon offered to cover his medical bills. The announcement sheds light on the importance of awareness and proactive health measures in fighting prostate cancer.
