OU Health to Host Men’s Health Summit with Free Screenings

by Shreeya

OU Health is set to host a Men’s Health Summit offering free health screenings, aimed at encouraging proactive wellness among men. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring medical professionals from OU Health’s Stephenson Cancer Center.

Attendees can access complimentary screenings for colorectal and prostate cancer, as well as checks for blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, and glucose. Mobile mammography services will also be available on-site.

Curtis Murray, a prostate cancer survivor, shared his personal journey as a catalyst for advocating for early detection. “I was diagnosed during a routine visit for testosterone treatment,” he recalled.

“Before I even got home from the first shot, the doctor called, alarmed—my PSA level, a marker for prostate health, was 18, far above the normal range of 4. That’s when I knew I needed help.”

Murray’s experience led him to participate in a prostate cancer work study at Stephenson Cancer Center. “Those 10 to 11 months of grappling with mortality deepened my faith,” he said. “God turned my prayers into purpose, and it changed my life. The center has been a blessing ever since.”

He emphasized the accessibility of screenings, noting OU Stephenson Cancer Center’s development of an at-home PSA test. “It’s non-invasive and private—you can get results via email to share with your doctor,” Murray explained. “This will be a game changer for men who value privacy and want to ease insecurities around the condition.”

The summit will include oncologists, urologists, and other experts, plus a panel of cancer survivors. Murray highlighted key focuses: “Past summits showed people want to know, ‘What do we do if we’re diagnosed?’ Finances often limit screenings, so we’ll address that. There will also be breakout sessions on wellness basics and connected care, including the at-home test I mentioned.”
