Singer Anne-Marie has spoken honestly about her battle with postnatal depression following the birth of her second child.
The 34-year-old artist, known for hits like Rockabye and Ciao Adios, welcomed her second baby with rapper Slowthai, 30, in May. This came just 15 months after the couple’s first daughter was born.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Anne-Marie shared selfies showing her new wavy blonde bob, a change from her usual deep red hair. She appeared relaxed and happy in the photos, wearing a pleated playsuit and smiling with her eyes closed.
Alongside the images, she wrote about the struggles she faced. “This is the most ‘me’ I’ve felt in a long time,” she said. Anne-Marie revealed she had been pregnant and breastfeeding for over two years, which affected her hormones and mental health.
She added, “I battled with postnatal depression and postnatal anxiety. Therapy and the support of people around me helped pull me through it.” Despite the difficulties, she said it was worth it. “I feel I’ve come out of the hole,” she said.
Anne-Marie also joked about her body and eating habits. “My body is kinda back. I just have to stop eating chocolate and saying ‘the baby wants it’,” she wrote.
The singer ended her post on a positive note, saying her mind was finally clear again. She expressed excitement about returning to touring soon, though not just yet.
The post quickly gained more than 120,000 likes. Fans sent supportive messages, with one writing, “You’re strong! I love you all.” Another said, “Take your time, we’ll always be here. You look stunning!”
Celebrities also showed support. DJ Fearne Cotton and presenter Stacey Dooley reacted with heart emojis. Singer Jessie J called Anne-Marie a “Superwoman,” while Paloma Faith said she “totally relate[d].”
Earlier this year, Anne-Marie shared sweet moments from her family life on Instagram, including celebrating her daughter’s first birthday. “A year with the most beautiful soul,” she wrote. “Our precious little book worm, you are so clever and funny. We can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives with you.”
