Young Women Say No To Dating Men Who Dismiss Therapy, Survey Shows

by Shreeya

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and new research shows how much mental health matters in dating—especially for young women.

A survey from the dating app Hily looked at how views on therapy affect dating preferences among Millennials and Gen Z. The company asked 2,500 young Americans how they feel about therapy and mental health when choosing a partner.

One clear result stood out: many young women don’t want to date men who ignore or dismiss therapy.

According to the survey, 55% of Millennial and Gen Z women said they would not date a man who doesn’t believe in therapy.

The results also showed that therapy is seen as a plus. Nearly half of Gen Z (45%) and more than half of Millennials (55%) said they find someone more attractive if they’ve been to therapy. And 23% of young women said they wouldn’t even consider dating someone who has never been to therapy at all.

The researchers said the findings show how therapy is becoming an important part of relationships. “Therapy can make people more attractive, help them be more open, and improve how we connect with each other,” the study said.

Women are more likely than men to see therapy as a key part of a healthy relationship, especially in younger generations. As more people talk openly about mental health, going to therapy is now seen as more than self-care—it’s a step toward building stronger, healthier relationships.
