Bentley Motors is reshaping its future with a diverse strategy that includes electrification, high-performance models, and exclusive limited editions. The British luxury automaker announced plans to introduce its first fully electric vehicle in 2027, alongside continued development of combustion and hybrid powertrains for its popular Bentayga SUV. This approach marks a shift from the company’s earlier goal of full electrification by 2030, favoring flexibility to meet varied customer demands.
At the 2026 New York Auto Show, Bentley Americas CEO Mike Rocco revealed that the company is exploring a limited-run off-road version of the Bentayga. Inspired by the Bentayga X Concept showcased earlier this year at the FAT Ice Race in Austria, this model features significant modifications such as a raised suspension, wider body, all-terrain tires, and additional off-road equipment like roof racks and auxiliary lighting. While production is not yet confirmed, dealer feedback has been very positive, suggesting strong interest in this rugged variant. If produced, it will be a small-volume, exclusive edition designed more as a collector’s item than a mass-market vehicle.
In addition to the off-road project, Bentley is preparing to launch its first electric SUV, internally called the Luxury Urban SUV. This new model will sit below the Bentayga in size and use Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, shared with vehicles like the Porsche Macan Electric and Audi Q6 e-tron. Unlike many competitors who offer hybrid versions alongside electric ones, Bentley plans this SUV exclusively as an electric vehicle without combustion or hybrid variants. This decision aligns with technical limitations of the platform and a strategic focus on attracting new customers who may not have considered Bentley before. The upcoming EV will also introduce Bentley’s next-generation design language, setting a fresh tone for the brand’s future aesthetics.
Meanwhile, Bentley continues to develop the next-generation Bentayga, expected to arrive within approximately two years. This new model will retain plug-in hybrid and internal combustion engine options to serve buyers not yet ready to switch fully to electric vehicles. Bentley does not plan to release another electric model before the decade ends, meaning the Luxury Urban SUV will represent its main electric offering for several years.
Performance remains a cornerstone of Bentley’s identity. The brand emphasizes its unique ability to combine luxury craftsmanship with powerful driving dynamics. Performance-oriented models such as the Supersports and Speed variants have been highly successful, accounting for about 35 percent of Bentley’s sales when available. The company intends to expand this focus on performance across its lineup.
Bentley’s evolving strategy demonstrates its commitment to balancing tradition with innovation. By offering electrified models alongside combustion engines and exclusive limited editions like the potential off-road Bentayga, Bentley aims to satisfy diverse customer preferences while maintaining its status as a leading luxury automaker.
