Bentley Unveils Plans for Electric Barnato SUV Launching in US by Late 2027

by Shreeya

Bentley is gearing up to introduce its first electric SUV, the Barnato, expected to debut later this year and arrive in the United States by the third quarter of 2027. This new model represents a significant step for the luxury automaker as it enters the electric vehicle market with a focus on urban driving. Bentley Americas CEO Mike Rocco revealed that the Barnato will likely be priced at the lower end of Bentley’s current lineup, suggesting a price range near that of the Bentayga, which starts around $210,000.

The Barnato will ride on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture shared with other luxury electric models such as the Audi A6 and Q6 e-trons and Porsche Macan and Cayenne Electric. The platform supports a large 113 kWh battery pack and offers fast charging capabilities, with power outputs ranging from 435 to over 1,100 horsepower in other models using this architecture. While precise performance details for the Barnato have not been confirmed, it is expected to deliver strong capabilities tailored for street use rather than off-road adventures.

Despite challenges in electric vehicle sales within the ultra-luxury segment, Bentley remains optimistic about the Barnato’s potential. Rocco mentioned extensive consumer research that showed promising interest, with about 80% of participants in Miami and Los Angeles clinics expressing willingness to purchase the new SUV. The company aims to highlight Bentley’s signature luxury and urban suitability rather than focusing solely on its electric powertrain.

In addition to its electric expansion, Bentley is also considering an off-road-focused version of its Bentayga SUV. The Bentayga X Concept has been showcased to dealers who have expressed strong support for bringing this rugged luxury SUV to market. This concept features enhanced off-road capabilities including increased ground clearance and a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 641 horsepower. Bentley’s North America CEO indicated that this off-road model could be launched sooner than expected as a limited production run, complementing Bentley’s performance-oriented lineup.

The brand continues to balance tradition with innovation by developing high-performance gasoline models like the new Continental Supersports while advancing into electrification. Leadership at Bentley emphasizes combining luxury, performance, and modern technology to appeal to diverse customers. The upcoming release of the Barnato marks a pivotal moment as Bentley seeks to expand its presence in the growing electric vehicle market without compromising its established reputation for craftsmanship and driving excellence.

As Bentley prepares for these launches, industry watchers anticipate that the Barnato will redefine expectations for urban luxury SUVs by blending cutting-edge electric technology with Bentley’s hallmark elegance and driving experience. More details about specifications and features are expected later this year ahead of its official unveiling.
