Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch significant updates for its 2027 SUV lineup, focusing on the flagship GLS and the popular GLE models. Both vehicles receive refreshed designs, enhanced powertrains, and state-of-the-art technology upgrades, reinforcing Mercedes’ position in the luxury SUV market.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV undergoes a subtle but impactful redesign. The front fascia now features a larger grille and more pronounced headlights that incorporate the brand’s signature three-pointed star motif. For the first time, buyers can opt for an illuminated standing star emblem on the hood, highlighting its status as the brand’s premier SUV. Inside, the GLS is equipped with the new MBUX Superscreen, which spans the dashboard with three 12.3-inch displays running on Mercedes’ latest MB.OS system. This setup supports over-the-air updates and introduces advanced artificial intelligence features designed to enhance user experience.
Performance improvements are notable in the GLS lineup. The GLS 450 carries forward its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 375 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. The GLE-Class also receives extensive updates for 2027, despite no new generation being planned soon. Over 3,000 components have been revised or replaced to improve performance and comfort. The GLE580 shares the same powerful V8 as the GLS580, with identical output figures of 530 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The six-cylinder models see torque gains to 413 pound-feet, while a new plug-in hybrid version pairs a six-cylinder engine with electric assistance to deliver a combined output of 577 horsepower in the AMG GLE53 Hybrid variant.
Visually, the GLE adopts Mercedes’ updated design language with a large grille filled with metallic stars surrounding an illuminated central badge. Inside, it features a full-length MBUX Superscreen that connects driver and passenger displays seamlessly. New interior color options and trims add to its luxury appeal. Advanced driver assistance systems are enhanced with improved processors, promising semi-autonomous driving capabilities in dense city traffic in future software updates.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric offerings with the 2026 EQE SUV, which provides an all-electric alternative featuring a range of up to approximately 300 miles on a single charge. While its styling may not appeal to all traditional Benz enthusiasts, it offers reliable performance with an all-wheel-drive setup producing 315 horsepower and advanced tech like fingerprint authentication for driver profiles.
However, not all news is positive; Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for certain electric G-Class models due to wheel bolt issues that could cause wheels to loosen or detach under specific conditions. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified to have their wheel bolts replaced free of charge.
