General Motors is reportedly preparing a major expansion of the Corvette lineup for 2027, with the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport expected to return in a more powerful and electrified form. New details emerging from recent GM dealer meetings suggest the upcoming performance model could arrive as the Corvette Grand Sport X, featuring a newly developed 6.7-liter LS6 V8 and a hybrid all-wheel-drive system.
The biggest development for Corvette fans is the reported confirmation of the 6.7L naturally aspirated small-block V8, which is now expected to serve as the foundation for the next Grand Sport. Earlier speculation pointed to possible 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engine options, but the latest information indicates GM has chosen the larger 6.7-liter configuration for the new model.
According to industry reports and prototype sightings, Chevrolet is not simply reviving the Grand Sport nameplate, but repositioning it with a more aggressive performance identity under the Grand Sport X (GSX) badge. This new version is expected to blend traditional V8 performance with electrified capability, marking another step in Corvette’s broader high-performance evolution.
Sources familiar with the program say the 6.7L LS6 V8 is projected to produce 535 horsepower, representing a clear step up from the current Corvette Stingray’s 490 horsepower, or 495 horsepower when equipped with the performance exhaust system. That increase alone would place the Grand Sport comfortably above the base Stingray in the Corvette hierarchy.
The more significant leap, however, is expected to come from the hybridized GSX model. Reports suggest Chevrolet will pair the V8 with a front-mounted electric motor producing 186 horsepower, creating an electrified all-wheel-drive (eAWD) layout similar to the setup seen in the Corvette ZR1X. With both systems working together, total output is expected to reach at least 721 horsepower.
If those figures prove accurate, the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X would surpass the current Corvette Z06, which produces 670 horsepower, and could emerge as one of the most compelling performance offerings in Chevrolet’s future sports car range. The move would also help GM further bridge the gap between traditional internal-combustion performance and next-generation electrified engineering.
The reported product strategy suggests the Grand Sport will sit as a stronger, more track-capable alternative to the Stingray, while the hybrid GSX may effectively take over the space currently occupied by the Corvette E-Ray. That positioning would give Chevrolet more flexibility in building out a layered Corvette portfolio with clearly defined performance steps.
Looking beyond the Grand Sport X, speculation is already building around a possible Corvette Z06X, which could combine a more aggressive V8 setup with electric assistance for output approaching 850 horsepower. While GM has not officially confirmed such a model, the rumor reflects the direction many expect Corvette engineering to take in the years ahead.
With GM’s annual dealer and product meetings taking place in Las Vegas, additional details surrounding the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport X, the 6.7L LS6 V8, and its hybrid performance architecture could surface soon.
