Kia’s flagship midsize electric SUV, the EV9 GT, has reportedly outperformed the Volvo EX90 in a comprehensive electric vehicle evaluation conducted by German automotive media outlet Auto Bild.
According to Kia, the EV9 GT earned a total of 583 points across key categories including body, powertrain, and economy, surpassing the EX90 Twin Motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) by 18 points.
The evaluation highlighted the EV9 GT’s spacious cargo capacity, particularly the innovative “frunk” storage space under the front hood, which Auto Bild described as more practical than Volvo’s equivalent. “Kia is clearly ahead in trunk space,” the report noted, adding that the maximum cargo volume of 2,393 liters, achieved with both the second and third rows folded, exemplifies efficiency thanks to the vehicle’s boxy design.
In the powertrain category, the EV9 GT scored an impressive 97 points, driven by its 508-horsepower motor and fast-charging capability using an 800V high-voltage system. In the economy category, which considers pricing and warranty coverage, it achieved 62 points, 17 points higher than the EX90.
The EV9 GT’s accolades follow a strong year for Kia, as the model previously secured two of the world’s top automotive awards in 2024, including World Car of the Year and the North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) in the utility category.
This recognition positions the EV9 GT as a formidable contender in the midsize electric SUV market, combining practicality, high performance, and innovative design features that appeal to both everyday drivers and EV enthusiasts.
