Volvo has officially unveiled its 360c concept car, a fully autonomous electric vehicle designed to redefine how people experience road travel. The reveal, held Wednesday in Sweden, highlights Volvo’s vision for a future where cars are not just transportation tools but mobile spaces for work, relaxation, and productivity.
The 360c operates at Level 5 autonomy, meaning it is entirely computer-controlled in all environments and situations. Volvo has removed the steering wheel entirely, signaling a shift from traditional driver-operated vehicles to fully automated, door-to-door mobility solutions. Unlike conventional cars, the 360c is intended primarily for businesses, which can purchase fleets to offer employees or clients as premium travel perks.
A standout feature of the 360c is its innovative exterior lighting system, which communicates with pedestrians and other drivers through sounds, colors, and visual cues. This approach echoes Jaguar Land Rover’s experimental “virtual eyes” on autonomous shuttles, but Volvo emphasizes that the 360c’s design prioritizes both safety and interaction.
The interior is equally forward-looking. Volvo envisions the 360c as a versatile environment for sleeping, working, relaxing, or socializing. A teaser video posted on Volvo’s Facebook page highlights amenities such as in-car coffee preparation, transforming the vehicle into a mobile office or personal retreat.
Volvo also aims to position the 360c as an alternative to short-haul flights. For example, a 125-mile trip from Los Angeles to San Diego could become a productive and restful journey, bypassing airport hassles while remaining fully electric. This approach raises new questions about urban planning, as commuters might choose to live farther from city centers if autonomous vehicles provide comfortable, efficient travel.
While still a concept, the 360c underscores Volvo’s belief that autonomous vehicles will play a central role in future mobility, blending convenience, comfort, and innovation. The company clearly intends to be at the forefront of this transformation.
