VW Unveils ID.3 Neo with Advanced Tech, New Design, and Extended Electric Range

by Shreeya

Volkswagen is giving its popular electric hatchback a major facelift with the launch of the ID.3 Neo, featuring a fresh design, upgraded software, and enhanced performance. The updates mark a significant step in Volkswagen’s evolution of its ID family of electric vehicles, making them smarter, more efficient, and increasingly versatile.

A Fresh Look and Smarter Software

First introduced in 2020, the ID.3 was the flagship model of Volkswagen’s ID electric lineup. The new ID.3 Neo brings a refreshed exterior, a new name, and “extensive” upgrades that extend to other Volkswagen EVs, including the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7, which can now be equipped with Volkswagen’s latest Innovision Infotainment system.

Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen’s Chief Technology Officer, said the new software generation “brings more performance and an even better customer experience to the ID. models.” Among the highlights is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, allowing drivers to power external devices like an electric grill, coffee maker, or e-bike directly from the vehicle’s battery. A 230 V socket delivers up to 3.6 kW for campsite and outdoor use.

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

The entry-level ID.4 and ID.5 now feature Volkswagen’s APP 350 drive system, delivering 187 hp (140 kW) and paired with a new 58 kWh LFP battery. This setup improves efficiency and extends the WLTP driving range by up to 25 miles (40 km) compared with the previous APP 310 system.

Additional technology upgrades include a digital key and app store integration, allowing drivers to use their smartphone as a key, among other convenience features.

Volkswagen’s Expanding EV Lineup

The ID.3 Neo represents the start of Volkswagen’s shift from numeric ID names to more distinctive model names. The company plans to roll out a new wave of entry-level EVs this spring, starting with the ID. Polo, along with ID. Polo GTI and ID. Cross, all featuring the latest software and infotainment technology.

Volkswagen has scheduled the world premiere of the ID.3 Neo for mid-April, signaling the brand’s continued commitment to electrification and innovation in both small and compact vehicle segments.
