Liposuction Gains Popularity Among Men as More Embrace Cosmetic Surgery for Body Improvements

by Shreeya

TV presenter and rapper Jub Jub recently shared his experience getting liposuction, drawing attention to the increasing interest among men in cosmetic surgical procedures. His open documentation of this journey points to a cultural shift, with more men now choosing surgery over traditional fitness methods to address body image concerns.

Jub Jub, whose real name is Molemo Maarohanye, expressed that he had struggled for years with stubborn abdominal fat despite trying gym workouts and medication. He eventually opted for liposuction, stating that although surgery provides results, maintaining those results with a healthy diet is still important. The procedure usually requires patients to wear compression garments around-the-clock for several weeks and can involve a recovery time of about six weeks.

Plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Deon Weyers, based in Johannesburg, has noticed growing interest from male clients in procedures like liposuction, abdominal sculpting, and fat transfers. According to Dr Weyers, advances in technology now make it possible not just to remove fat but to enhance muscle definition, giving patients a more sculpted look. He points out that these high-definition liposculpture techniques appeal to many men looking to refine their bodies.

The trend is not limited to liposuction. Some male celebrities have gone public about undergoing cosmetic treatments, such as hair transplants and facial rejuvenation, helping to normalize these procedures for other men. Professor Chrysis Sofianos, a triple-board-certified plastic surgeon, says that people in their 40s often seek treatments like liposuction and eyelid lifts as part of strategies to counteract the effects of aging and maintain a youthful appearance.

Though cosmetic surgery is becoming more socially accepted among men, experts emphasize the importance of understanding the procedures and possible risks. These risks include infection, irregular fat removal, shifts in skin sensation, and fluid buildup. Medical professionals encourage anyone considering cosmetic surgery to consult with qualified surgeons and carefully follow after-care instructions to reduce potential complications.
