Country music star Jelly Roll says he feels like a “whole different human” after shedding nearly 300 pounds, a transformation he began in 2022 that has profoundly impacted both his body and his life.
In a recent interview with Extra, the Netflix Star Search judge opened up about how his weight loss has strengthened his spirituality and enhanced his role as a father to his two children, Bailee Ann, 17, and Noah, 9, from previous relationships.
“In every way… spiritually, I’ve gotten closer to God. I’ve gotten closer to myself. I’m a better father. I’m more present with my children,” Jelly Roll shared. “You should see it, dude. I’m coaching my son’s basketball team this year… I just feel physically better, and I feel like I can physically do it.”
Reflecting on his former self, he added, “When you’re 550 lbs… you don’t think about coaching a team. You wonder if there’s a bench you can sit on. For God to make that kind of difference—literally taking 300 pounds off—I’m a whole different human.”
Jelly Roll credits his remarkable transformation to a combination of healthy eating, therapy, and a rigorous running routine. “I’ve become vigilant with my food and built a whole different relationship with it. I did a lot of therapy around bad eating and a lot of running,” he said.
He described pushing himself to tackle what he once hated most: running hills. “I hate running… I was like, ‘What do I hate the most?’ I was someone who always took the easy way out. Running. And hills. So, I ran hills. And now, I love running hills.”
Jelly Roll’s journey is not just a story of weight loss—it’s a testament to personal growth, faith, and reclaiming joy in life and fatherhood.
