From “The Mindy Project” to Mom of Three: Mindy Kaling Shares Her Weight Loss Journey

by Shreeya

Mindy Kaling took a stroll down memory lane on Thursday, sharing throwback photos from 2016 on Instagram and reflecting on how much she has changed since then—both personally and professionally. The “Mindy Project” star, who is now a mother of three and one of Hollywood’s most influential writers and producers, also highlighted her 40-pound weight loss.

“I saw this 2016 trend and loved it and almost didn’t post because I look different,” Kaling wrote. “But these pics are too fun not to share.”

She shared several photos from the set of The Mindy Project, the popular sitcom she created, produced, wrote, and starred in between 2012 and 2017. In the images, Kaling donned a variety of colorful outfits, including a neon pink skirt suit and a patterned sleeveless dress. She added, “I loved this time and all my memories from then, so had to post! Enjoy!!!!”

Fans were quick to celebrate the post, praising Kaling for her talent and charm. “This is the Mindy we fell in love with. Not your weight, not your dress size, but the talented writer, creator, and comedic genius you are,” one fan commented. Others added: “An icon then and now!!” and “Hilarious then. Hilarious now. Beautiful then. Beautiful now.”

Kaling, who began her weight loss journey around 2020, has previously shared that the public’s fascination with her body could feel overwhelming. In an interview with People, she said, “I know people are really interested in my body and the changes in my body, and I think it’s flattering and sometimes it’s just a little much, so I don’t try to tune it in too much.”

She explained that maintaining her health is a daily commitment. “It’s really a big commitment. It’s hard with two kids that I wake up really early, and I fit it in – and I basically live in workout clothes so I can get it in, get an extra mile in,” Kaling said. She aims for about 20 miles a week through hiking or running.

The actress is a mother to Katherine “Kit,” eight, Spencer, five, and Anne, who will turn two next month.

Kaling also revealed that traditional dieting never worked for her. “I used to be the person that was like, ‘I have to stop eating this food or six weeks beforehand I’m only going to juice,’” she explained. “I am never going to stop being a foodie. I’m never going to be someone who can just have spinach and salmon every single day.”

Her journey reflects a balance of mindful health, self-acceptance, and a love of food—a combination that resonates with many fans who admire her honesty and humor.
