Scalpcare is no longer just a niche beauty trend. From oils to home microneedling devices, consumers are increasingly investing in their scalp as much as their skin, aiming for fuller, healthier hair.
The hashtag #scalpcare has amassed over 1 billion views on TikTok, highlighting a growing interest in scalp, root, and hair wellness. Among the trending products are home dermarolling tools, also known as microneedling devices, which users claim can stimulate hair growth.
Traditionally, microneedling required visits to professional clinics. Today, affordable home versions are widely available online. These tools feature roller heads studded with tiny needles designed to puncture the scalp’s surface, inducing controlled micro-injuries. This process is believed to activate stem cells in hair follicles, potentially resulting in thicker hair over time.
To separate hype from fact, we spoke with Kevin Moore, trichologist at Regrowz, about the effectiveness of at-home dermarolling.
“Dermarolling was first developed to treat acne scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles,” Moore explains. “Its benefits for male and female pattern baldness have since been discovered, and it can even help treat alopecia areata. By stimulating collagen production in the scalp, dermarolling can encourage stem cell activity in hair follicles, promoting growth. Additionally, it improves absorption and efficacy of topical hair treatments.”
For those interested in trying the trend, several accessible options are available:
- UKLash Advanced Scalp Dermaroller (£20): Uses gentle microneedling to stimulate follicles while enhancing serum absorption, making it an easy addition to a hair-growth routine.
- Kitsch Micro Derma Roller (£15): An affordable starter tool that works well with weekly application alongside hair serums or treatment masks.
As the scalpcare trend continues to gain traction on social media, experts advise consistency and proper technique to maximize results — proving that investing in your scalp may be just as important as your skincare routine for hair growth.
